Etowah River Tributary

ESI

Construction was initiated in November 2001 for Priority Level II restoration of 400 feet of natural channel design of an unnamed tributary to the Etowah River, in Forsyth County, Georgia. The purpose of the proposed stream mitigation plan was to relocate, restore, stabilize, and construct approximately 400 feet of a degraded stream channel that had been diverted and channelized for gold mining activities in the early 1900’s. The stream was relocated to the abandoned channel and the gradient was adjusted to the proper slope using a step-pool system.

The project also included in-stream structure installation, construction bankfull benches, streambank stabilization, riparian vegetation plantings, and establishment of permanent monumented cross-sections and as built measurements for monitoring.
